Edward was a bootmaker from Randolph, Massachusetts.

Edward served in Company E, Massachusetts 35th Infantry Regiment from August 19, 1862 until December 10, 1863. He was wounded 17 September 1862 at Antietam, Maryland. He was taken prisoner on 15 October 1863 at Campbell's Station, Virginia. Edward died of disease at Richmond, Virginia on 10 December 1863.

Edward married Eliza A. Morse on November 25, 1858 in North Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Edward was the son of Samuel W. and Harriet (Hollis) Hobart.
