Susan McCoy was the daughter of Sarah Smith and Reding (Readen) McCoy.

Susan married first in Craven County, North Carolina, October 11, 1865, William Zacheus Caton, son of Prudence Hollis (b. ca 1806, d. ca 1869) and John Scott Caton (1806-1841).

William was born in North Carolina September 1, 1835; died in Beaufort Co., NC, March 24, 1896; buried at Paul Cemetery, Grantsboro, Pamlico Co., NC; leaving his wife and a daughter.

William was listed in the 1850 US Census in Craven Co., NC, with his mother Prudence Caton, 44, b. NC, and four siblings as William Caton, 14, b. NC ca 1836.

William served as a private in Co. B, 1st Regiment, North Carolina Artillery, CSA.

William and Susan were listed in the 1870 US Census in New Bern, Craven Co., NC, as Wm Z Caton, 34, Grocer; Susan M. Caton, 19.

They were listed in the 1880 US Census on Front Street, New Bern, Craven Co., NC, as Wm C. Caton, 43, Fisherman; Susan M. Caton, 28, married; Hattie Styron, 17, single; Lizzie Flemmings, 17, single; and Mary Caraway, 20, single.

She married second at age 45 in Craven County, North Carolina, April 7, 1897, Thomas Wilson, age 59.

Susan and William had one daughter:
Virginia Caton, b. ca 1880-1896; m. (?) Alligood.
