Mrs. S.B. Wood, who for many years resided at Fort Graham, passed away at the home of her son, C.L. Wood, at Bridgeport, Texas, June 6, 1942, and her body was returned to the home of her son, Sam Wood, of Morgan by Dodson-Brister Funeral Home of Walnut Springs, and funeral services were held at Fort Graham Sunday afternoon, June 7, conducted by Rev. F.E. Weller and J.C. Willet of Whitney. Interment was in Fort Graham Cemetery.
Miss Sarah Jane Shelley was born February 16, 1865 near Canton, Georgia, and was united in marriage June 26, 1881, to Mr. S.B. Wood of Atlanta, Georgia. They moved to Arkansas and later Oklahoma, finally coming to Texas locating near Fort Graham where where they resided until his death, December 23, 1920. For the past five years she had resided with her children.
Eleven children were born to the couple, seven of whom are living and were at her bedside when she departed this life. They are: H.L. Wood, DeLeon; C.L. Wood, Bridgeport; Sam Wood, Morgan; Mrs. A. T. Bromley, Gilliland; Mrs. L.D. DeArmon of Whitney; Mrs. L.L. Brown of Hillsboro and Mrs. C.T. Jenkins of Morgan. She also leaves 31 grand children, 27 great grand children, 4 brothers, A.J. Shelley and J.W. Shelley of Whintey, Z.W. Shelley of Lubbock and A.B. Shelley, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
She was a devoted Christian and for years had held membership with the Baptist Church at Gilliland, Texas.
