Film Director. He gained fame as an American motion picture director, beginning his career in 1924 during the Silent Film era. He is best remembered for his adventure films, such as "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" in 1934, "Tarzan's New York Adventure" in 1942, "Ivanhoe" and "The Prisoner of Zenda" both in 1952, "All the Brothers Were Valiant" and "Knights of the Round Table" both in 1953, "The Student Prince" in 1954, "The Adventures of Quentin Durward" in 1955, and the hit musical film "Jailhouse Rock" in 1957. Although he had an early successful career with at least 100 films, his longtime career at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios began in 1935. He directed sixty-six films for MGM in thirty years, with the last being in 1967. He earned recognition in the film industry with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His only child, Jerry, successfully followed in his career footsteps. He was married and then divorced. He died from the consequences of aging.
