EDENTON - Edith Bass Chilton White, 94, of the 500 block of Evans-Bass Road, died Jan. 12, 2005, in Britthaven of Edenton. Mrs. White was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Quinton Trotman and Bessie Virginia Pierce Bass. A former department store clerk and homemaker, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and its Bertha Dale Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Wesley Chilton and Wayland L. White Sr.; sisters, Elsie Bass and Elizabeth Bass; brothers, Warner H. Bass, Graham P. Bass and Marcus F. Bass Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Edgar Chappell and Julian Owens. Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy B. Chappell of Belvidere and Hattie Ruth Owens of Hobbsville; a brother, Percy Bass and wife Mary Elizabeth of Edenton; two sisters-in-law, Marybelle Bass and Mary Ruth Bass, both of Edenton; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Greg Blackburn. Burial will follow in Up River Cemetery in the Whiteston community of Perquimans County. Friends may join the family at the home of Percy and Mary Elizabeth Bass, 1634 Rocky Hock Landing Road, Edenton.
