Gildford Man to Be Buried on Tuesday. Clarence V. Smith, Aged Restaurant Operator, Succumbs at Havre
Havre, Nov. 17--Clarence (Cal) Vinson Smith, 75, of Gildford, died at a Havre hospital following an operation.
Funeral services for the Gildford restaurant man will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gildford church, with Rev. John B. Stuart officiating. The Odd Fellows Lodge will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in Gildford.
Clarence Vinson Smith was born April 28, 1861, at Dunnville, Wis. He was the son of James and Elizabeth (McKee) Smith.
In 1915 Mr. Smith came to Gildford, where he filed on a homestead eight miles southeast of town. Since 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Smith operated a restaurant at Gildford.
The marriage of Mr. Smith to Miss Emma Swisher occurred at Downsville, Wis., July 1, 1885, they having celebrated their golden wedding last year.
Three children were born to them; Nora dying when 5 years old; Hazel, now Mrs. Ernest Stevens of Missoula; and Lloyd of Asbury Park, N. J.
Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. A. J. McKenzie, sister of Mrs. Smith, were with Mr. Smith when he died. Lloyd Steven is coming for the funeral.
