Anchorage Daily News July 20, 2004

Former Anchorage resident James Lonney Heisel, 63, died July 10, 2004, at home in Langley, Wash. A service was July 15 at St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Langley, Wash. Burial was in Cripple Creek, Colo. Mr. Heisel was born Feb. 24, 1941, in Cripple Creek, Colo. He graduated from high school in Cripple Creek and from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. Shortly thereafter, he married Helen June Moore. Mr. Heisel served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Vietnam, then came to Alaska in 1969 while working for Arco, Alaska as an engineer. He was active in Little League as a coach and league president and served as District One Administrator for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Heisel were foster parents for more than 300 children and infants during a span of three decades. He had lived in Anchorage for 31 years and moved to Langley in 2001. Mr. Heisel enjoyed sports, children and photography. His family said, "Jim will be missed for his quiet, loving manner, for his great wisdom, and for his caring and kindness." He is survived by his wife, Helen Heisel of Langley; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Debbie Heisel of Sammamish, Wash.; grandchildren, Rachel, Robbie, James, Joseph and Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law, Lona and Mark Maloney of Parker, Colo.; son, Jeff Heisel of Langley; brother, Gary Heisel of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; sisters, Sharon Schumacher of Littleton, Colo., and Margi King of Grand Prairie, Texas; and brother, Ken Heisel of Windsor, Colo.
