Eva Helen Herring (1923 - 2011)
Eva Helen Herring, 87, beloved Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 12, 2011, surrounded by her family. Celebration of life: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Helen was born May 8, 1923, in Haskell County. She married Gordon Herring, July 19, 1941, and enjoyed 52 years of a love-filled marriage. After living in Eastland, Haskell and Knox counties, they moved to Weatherford in 1945 and operated a dairy until 1954 when they moved to Fort Worth. Helen was a charter member of West Freeway Church of Christ, where she remained an active member until her recent hospitalization. Mamaw will be greatly missed by all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was an inspiration to all and loved by all, especially small children who enjoyed the special attention she gave them. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert T. Keller, Dr. Stephen Goode, Dr. Jonathan Cichocki, Dr. Michael Cowan, and the staff at Community Hospice House at James L. West Special Care Center, 1111 Summit Ave., Fort Worth, for all their understanding and care.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Herring; her parents, Harold and Iva Scruggs; and brothers, Maurice and Joe Scruggs.
Survivors: Son, James Herring and wife, Janie; daughters, Linda Holder and husband, Robie, and Martha Bearden and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Beth Cox, Todd Herring, Brent Herring, Carrie Bankston, Tim Holder, Christy Bramlett, Jennifer Sundquist and Jeremy Moore; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Strickland and husband, Troy.
