"John H. Abel, retired bus driver for Conestoga Transportation Co., died Sunday at 7:15 p.m. at Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 61 and lived at 131 Nevin St. He and his wife, Anna Ewing Abel, would have observed their 32nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 28. Abel retired from CTC in April 1977 after 36 years service as a bus driver. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 34, and Artisans Lancaster Assembly 27. A U.S. Army veteran, Abel served in Europe during World War II. Born in and a lifetime resident of Lancaster, Abel was a son of the late John D. and Daisy Herr Abel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann, wife of Patrick Batutis, Wilkes Barr; four sisters, Florence, wife of Herbert Snyder, Hollywood, Fla; Mary Jane, wife of Glenn Leighty, and Barbara Abel, both of Lancaster; Lydia Getty, Reston, Va.; and a brother, Harold Abel, Landisville."
