Born Nov. 19, 1927, at Rowlesburg, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Charles and Daisy Viola (Thomas) Adams Leasure. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Kittle.
On Sept. 6, 1946, she married Richard E. Dowdy Sr., who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy Sisk and husband Robert, Petersburg; three sons, Richard E. Dowdy Jr., Petersburg, William D. Dowdy, Owings Mills, Md., and Brian C. Dowdy, Westminster, Md.; three grandchildren, Grant, Morgan and Shana Sisk; one sister, Betty Lee Lohmeyer, Hagerstown, Md.; one half sister, Shirley Steele, Severn, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dowdy and her husband moved from Westminster to Petersburg in June 1995. She was a former employee of Martin's Food Market, Westminster, and a member of the Church of the Open Door of Westminster.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Burial will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD 21205; or the Petersburg High School Scholarship Fund.
