The Poore family farmed in Marion, Audrain, and Shelby Counties in Missouri until 1899 when, according to John Poore's obituary, they moved to Garfield County, Oklahoma Territory. At least one of their children, Lillian, who married Millard Sunderland, went with them as she and her husband and children were living with Eliza and John Poore in the 1910 census of Garfield County, Oklahoma.

John died in 1916 and Eliza in 1917. Both are buried at White Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Eliza Jane Churchwell was born in Marion Co., Mo., September 24, 1838, and died at 9:40 a.m. September 13, 1917, at the home of her son, S.W. Poore, near Hunter, Okla., aged 78 years, 11 months and 19 days. She was converted at about the age of 16 and united with the Baptist church at that time. She was united in marriage with John T. Poore on April 14, 1858, and to this union were born nine children, seven boys and two girls, one boy dying in infancy. Eight children survive with 30 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She survived her husband one year and 23 days, he having died August 20, 1916.

The deceased with her husband, moved to Oklahoma in March 1900 [Note: This date conflicts with John Poore's obituary by one year], and settled on a farm three miles east and three miles south of Hunter, where they lived until 1912, when they gave up housekeeping and went into the home of their son, S.W. Poore, five miles southeast of Hunter. In this home with a devoted son, they found the care of one like Ruth, a daughter-in-law, whose hand was ever ready to please them. With hearts beating as one, the son and daughter have for over five years watched over and tenderly cared for father and mother. It can be truly said that here is one like Ruth, for she has been longsuffering with patience and love, and has said like that kind daughter of old when to Naomi she said, "Entreat not to leave thee or to return from following after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge."

All the children were present for the funeral but one son who lives in California. It was necessary to delay the funeral services until Sunday the 16th, to allow some of the children time to arrive. Funeral services were held at the Hunter Baptist church, conducted by the pastor in the presence of a house full of friends who came to show their last respect to the departed. Interment was made in White cemetery by the side of her husband.
