Joseph Leroy Baxter, 89, formerly of New Holland, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Denver Nursing Home. His wife, Estelle (Boyer) Baxter, survives.

Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Chester L. and Bessie Eva (Watson) Baxter.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

Joe was last employed as a truck driver for Mervin Weaver of Terre Hill. He had served for many years with the Fire Police for New Holland.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six siblings: Edith Walters, Harvey, ND; Evelyn Wallace, Coatesville; Sarah Taylor, Coatesville; Laura Doll, Lebanon; Allen Baxter, Blue Ball and Lester Baxter, Honey Brook.

He was preceded in death by six siblings: John, Howard, Wayne, and Wilson Baxter; Violet Mummau and Kathryn Coulter.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland. Interment will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Honey Brook. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 -10 AM.
