Motion Picture Director, Producer. He was one of the most successful film directors of Hollywood's Golden Age. From 1920 to 1952, he made more than 50 films and was nominated for six Academy Awards. He discovered actress Greta Garbo and also is credited with advancing the early careers of Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Jimmy Stewart and Elizabeth Taylor. Some of his best credits include "The Eagle" (1925), "Navy Blues" (1929), "Anna Christie" (1930), "A Free Soul" (1931), "Anna Karenina" (1935), "The Human Comedy" (1943), "National Velvet" (1944), "The Yearling" (1946), "Intruder in the Dust" (1949) and "It's a Big Country" (1951). He died of natural causes at age 97. Brown has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame located at 1752 Vine Street.
