No one knows when Daniel died -- NOR where he may have been buried. The years for birth & death are guess-timated by me - his grand-niece. Daniel is on the 1910 U.S. Census. The 1920 U.S. Census indicates his wife Amelia was a Widow.

To avoid capture in Hungary (and denied emigration without "Papers") they departed from a port in Germany.

Daniel brought his wife and children to America in 1904 - they emigrated from Erdõsmecske / Rácmecske (Baranya megye), Hungary - settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Serbian by blood / Hungarian by birth, his parents spoke German. Daniel's Serbian name was Magurized aboard ship as "Vukajlovic". Another possible name is "Kálovics".

In America his - Serbian (by blood), Hungarian (by birth) - Parents' name continued to evolve and was documented as:

-- COLOWITCH (1910 Census = DANIEL, AMELIA, ALEXANDER)

-- CALLOVITS (per 1912 Marriage License of GABE to LUCY)

-- KOLOVITZ (1920 Census = Widowed AMELIA, sons JOHN & ALEX)

-- CALONITZ (1930 Census = Widowed AMELIA, married son ALEX & THERESA)

-- CALLWITTS (1942 WWII draft card = GABRIEL)

-- CALOWITS (1949 Family wrote in OBIT of "AMELIA, widow of "Christian" [sic] Calowits ...")

NOTE: When there are two or more siblings - there, too, will be different spellings ! Three sons and one daughter chose their own personal spellings. [Gabriel # 74073241 - John # 94255518 - Carolina # 66645095 - Alexander # 62405237 + parents: Amelia # 66644793 - Daniel # 66780616 ]

Any information you may wish to contribute to finding their final resting places is gratefully anticipated.

Thank you. ~ g'g'ma ellie ~ [email protected]
