James Clinton “Hop” Harl, 73, of Windsor died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor, with burial in Quigley Cemetery, near Windsor. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Harl was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Moultrie County, the son of Henry McClellan and Bessie (Dunn) Harl. He married Martha Jane Allen Nichols in 1951. She died in 1985.

He was retired from the Shanks Road Oil Co., Mattoon, and was a member of the Eagles Club, Mattoon.

Survivors include his sons, Ken Nichols of Sullivan, John Nichols of Austin, Texas; daughters, Kathy Jane Polk of Windsor, Melody Harl and Brenda Harl, both of Mattoon, Virginia Yakey of Stewardson; sisters, Gladys Courtright, Alberta Ray, Catherine Deckard, Dorothy Bishop, Jean Denton and Mary Braggs, all of Sullivan, Daisy Pearl Hill of Shelbyville, Dale Carnes of Greenup; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.
