Fay Smith passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born July 26, 1935 to Roy C. and Jenny M. (Simonsson) Smith at Julesburg, Colorado. Fay spent his childhood on a farm in the Big Springs area. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1952 and later attended the University of Nebraska. Fay married Sondra Dunn on July 17, 1955. He farmed at Big Springs, Nebraska, and later worked in construction while attending classes at Colorado State University at Fort Collins. Fay moved to North Platte in 1965. He worked for W.W. Wood Building Supply, Wayne Dowhower Construction and Mid Plains Community College. He was also self-employed in the construction business for several years. In 1984 Fay was united in marriage to Janet (Newbrey) Gress at North Platte. He enjoyed outdoor life, gardening, Husker Football and most importantly his family. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church. Fay is survived by his wife, Janet Smith; daughter, Diana (Jerry) Juker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Jeff (Darla) Smith of Denver, Colorado; step son, Brad (Angela) Gress of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Naomi (Bruce) Wood of Big Springs, Nebraska; brother, Lowell Smith of Curtis, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Keri Juker, Amy Juker, Jake (Christine) Juker, Scott Smith, Allen Smith, and Amber Smith; three step grandchildren, Dylan Gress, Carson Gress, John J. Dreitz, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Amber Meeks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jenny Smith; his brother, Ernie Smith and a son, Scott Smith. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, March 11, 2011 at Calvary Assembly of God Church. Graveside services will be 2:30 pm at the Cozad Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Kidney Association. Visitation will be 8:30 am to 8:00 pm Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
