"Mrs. Friday dead," is what we
heard on coming to the ofiice on Monday
morning. Mrs. Margaret Friday,
wife of Conrad Friday, has been a sufferer
for a long time with cancer of the
stomach. For the last week she was
unable to eat any food, the stomach refusing
to receive it. She suffered terribly,
and all the aid that could be
brought by skilled doctors was rendered
to alleviate her suffering, but of no
avail, and on Sunday evening last she
closed her eyes in death. Mrs. Friday
was born in Bavaria, in 1828, and married
Mr. Conrad Friday in 1862. She
was a Christian woman and member of
the Lutheran church. Her body was
laid to rest at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning,
in the Baughman cemetery, according
to the rites of her faith. She
was a kind mother and noble wife, and
leaves bright evidence of peace being
with her now. The husband and children
have the sympathy of the entire
community in their loss. Few of your
readers are aware that Mr. Friday has
passed through a great deal of trouble,
and now in his old days he is left alone
-not long. In 1858, Mr. F., with his
wife and four children, in company
with his brothers, Hiram and Henry, of
Osceola, sailed for America from their
native country, but alas, on the North
Sea the vessel was overtaken in storm,
and they were shipwrecked, 86 passengers
losing their lives out of 300 on
board. Among the lost were Mr. Conrad
Friday's first wife and four children.
The history of the family is remarkable.
