The death of a 62 year-old rural Superior man was ruled a suicide by Winnebago County Coroner Duane I. Moore this morning.
Dead is Roy E. Benedict, formerly of Neenah. Moore said the man died at about 9 p.m. Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
According to Winnebago County authorities, Benedict's body was found lying on the ground at the rear of his 1965 auto as it was parked on Lasley Point Road, about one mile west of the Highway 110 intersection in the Town of Winneconne.
An unidentified Town of Winneconne man who was driving by discovered the body at about 10:16 p.m. Thursday.
Benedict, who was a resident of Neenah most of his life, had recently moved to the Superior area. Officials said he had been depressed.
Moore said the man died from a shot from a .30-.30 caliber, lever action rifle.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne.

WINNECONNE -- Services for Roy E. Benedict, 62, of Port Wing, Wis., will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronald Kuka officiating. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday. The casket will remain closed. He was born in Butte des Morts on May 12, 1909, and was married to Doris Bradley in May 1937.
Mr. Benedict had been a beater engineer at Kimberly-Clark Corp. until his retirement in May, 1971 when he moved to Port Wing.
Surviving are his widow, Doris; two sons, Edward R. Benedict, Port Wing, and Roy A. Benedict, Neenah; three daughters, Mrs. Sophie J. Pamer and Miss Jacqueline Benedict, Milwaukee, and Miss Patsy Benedict, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Clark, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Viola Zaumayer, San Jose, Calif., and eight grandchildren.

Roy's siblings were: Phebe Viola Benedict Heagle, Cora May Benedict Clark, Robert Benedict Jr, Marie Helen Benedict Courtney, Sophia M. Benedict, Earl M. Benedict, and Pearl Ida Benedict.
Roy married Doris Bradley on June 6, 1904 in Winnebago Co, WI.
Roy and Doris's children are: Edwin Robert Benedict, Roy Allen Benedict, Sophia Joan Benedict Pamer, Jacqueline Marie Benedict Bailey, and Patsy Ann Benedict Hanson.
