Hayden Merritt Setchel age 86 of Streator died Wednesday evening November 5, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. at Heritage Manor in Streator.

Funeral Services for Hayden Merritt Setchel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2008 St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator.. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2:00 -5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Elias Funeral Home, and from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Church.

Funeral Services for Hayden Merritt Setchel will be held at 11:00 A.M. from St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Streator. Rev Daniel Stalker, and Rev. Gordon Carls will officiate. Music for the services will be provided by Dale Sass.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Picker, Wilbur Eden and H. Dean Reynolds. Serving as pallbearers will be Son-In-Law, Michael Linkimer, Grandsons Adam Linkimer and James Hawkins, Cousins Robert Lorey and George Ginder and Steward Lyman.

Full military rites including Honor Guard, Flag Folding Team, and Taps will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post 217, and V.F.W. Post 1492.

Born August 27, 1922 in Olean N.Y., he was the son of Hayden M and Helen (Ackerly) Setchel. He married Phyllis Hill August 2, 1945. She survives.

He is survived by one daughter Lori (Michael) Linkimer of St. Charles, Illinois and 3 grandchildren Lindsey (James) Hawkins, Kirstie Linkimer and Adam Linkimer.

He is survived by one brother John R.(Joyce) Setchel of Port Charlotte Fla, one Sister Dorothy Holman of Davidson N.C. and a sister-in-law Virginia Setchel of Port Charlotte Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother William A. Setchel of Port Charlotte Fla.

He attended grade school and High School in Cuba, New York, and Graduated from Alfred University in Alfred New York in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ceramic Engineering.

He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Co. February 1, 1981 after being employed for 34 years as the Supervisor in the Research/Development and Chemical Laboratory.

He served in the United States Air Force during WWII.

He was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Two or One Club, a member of the Chancel Choir for 30 years, and a former member of the Sick Benefit group.

He was a member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, a former member of the Choralaires. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and received the Legion of Honor Award for service to the Kiwanis Club for 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 217, Keramos (Honorary Ceramic Engineering Society) Engle Lane Theater, and a former of the Streator Country Club.

Memorials may be directed to the Music Ministry or the Elevator Fund of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donors choice.
