Robert B. Boal Jr., 65, of Elm St., Polk, died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca.

Born Feb. 22, 1942, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Robert B. Boal Sr. and Nola Fern Jennings Boal.

Mr. Boal was a 1960 graduate of Franklin High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Boal was employed at Polk Center for 30 years, retiring in 1994 as facility maintenance manager. In 2002, he started Permanent Deaconate School and on June 11, 2006, he was ordained as a permanent deacon and served as a deacon at St. Patrick Church, Franklin. In July 2006, he was appointed by the bishop as chaplain at Polk Center, a position he held to the present. Mr. Boal was a very active member of St. Patrick Church and sang in the senior church choir. He also was a Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus member, a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge No. 110 and the Franklin Eagles No. 328. He was well-known in the area as a pitcher in the fast pitch softball league. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking.

Mr. Boal was married in St. Patrick Church Aug. 8, 1964, to the former Diana Harris, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Boal of Franklin; a son, Robert B. Boal III and wife, Stacey, of Polk; his mother, Nola Fern Boal of Sandy Lake; and a sister, Patricia Beemiller and husband, Harry, of Sandy Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Church. A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. A consolidated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Church with Msgr. John J. Herbein, pastor, presiding.

Interment will take place in Old Sandy Cemetery.
