QUITMAN, Texas -- Evelyn Anna May, 88, formerly of Brainerd, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the East Texas Medical Center in Quitman, Texas.

She was born in Alexandria on Sept. 28, 1911, to Herman and Emma (Dittneberg) Berglund. She was a 1928 graduate of Morris High School. She attended the nursing program at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, graduating as a registered nurse in 1931. She worked as a RN in general and private duty nursing and as a charge nurse in various hospitals in Minnesota. She married Louis C. May Sept. 22, 1934, in Morris. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, chairman of guilds and circles of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association and Elks No. 615 in Brainerd.

Survivors include a son, Donald, Pottsboro, and two grandchildren.

Her husband died earlier.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Andrew Prin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may call 9:30 Thursday at the funeral home.
