OBITUARY :
EDWARD LEROY BACHTELL, SR., Smithsburg, died suddenly on Saturday morning at the Washington County Hospital, aged 58 years.

Born in Smithsburg he was the son of the late Earl and Virgie (Dayhoff) Bachtell.

He was a life long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg the Men's Bible Class and the Lutheran Brotherhood and had served on the church council. He was a charter member of the Smithsburg Lion's Club and a charter member of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. He had been a teller in the People's Bank and the Central Trust Co. of Smithsburg and took an active part in community activities. He was Postmaster for 25 years in Smithsburg. Md.

Surviving are wife Mrs. Juanita Winters Bachtell, sons Edward L. Bachtell, Jr., Smithsburg, Earl W. Bachtell, Myersville and Rev. Donald S. Bachtell, Freehold, N.J., daughter, Mrs. Betty L. Kelly, Frederick, brother David E. Bachtell. Smithsburg and sisters, Mrs. Mabel C. Bowers, Montebello, Calif, and Mrs. Edna Winters, Smithsburg. Also nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held today in Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg at 3 p.m. with Rev. James G. Horn officiating. Interment, Smithsburg cemetery.
