An old gentleman named G.W. Cassel was struck last night by a train near the depot in Chandler and so mangled by the cars that he died this morning. He had only been here a few days, and had rented the W.A. Smith farm southeast of town. He went to the train last night to meet his wife, and in crossing the track just after the passenger train had pulled out, he was struck by a freight car. Drs. Marshall and Hereford amputated his limbs, but his injuries were such that he could not live. He was an old soldier, and the members of the G.A.R. and the W.R.C. will have charge of the funeral, we understand. Served in Civil War Illinois 76th Infantry Company B.
