Lester D. Hirst Jr., 67, of 6 High St., Christiana, died Tuesday at 5:05 p.m. at Lancaster General Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Helen Boose "Dolly" Hirst. The couple observed their 44th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15. Born in Bart Township, he was the son of Lester V. Hirst Sr., of Harrison House, Christiana, and the late Elsie Draubacker Hirst. He was a member of the Christiana United Methodist Church and a retired employee of the former Diversified Printing Corp., now Quebecor Printing Inc. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the third army fourth armored division in the European theater. He also served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member and former first chief of the Christiana Fire Co. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Cynthia A., wife of Larry F. Welsch of Kinzers, and Randolph L. of Parkesburg; five grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Jane, wife of L. Norman Wise of Christiana; Bernetha, wife of Albert McLaughlin of Hudson, NH; and Ruth Ann, wife of Gary Beane of Alexandria, Va.; and one brother, Ross C. of Landisville.
