Louis F. Schroeder, Age 80, Dies Two Months After Wife

Louis Frederick Schroeder, 80 years old, died at his home, 413 S. Cook street, late Tuesday afternoon following an illness of nearly four years. Mrs. Schroeder passed away August 26, less than two months before her husband, at the age of 82 years.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 p. m. Friday and at the Salem church at 2 p. m. Rev. Philip Beuscher will officiate, assisted by Rev. C. F. Roloff. Burial will take place at Evergreen cemetery.

Local places of business will be closed during the funeral services.

Mr. Schroeder was born at Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, February 11, 1853. At the age of 11 years, he came to this country with relatives who settled at Schaumburg. Later he moved to Elgin where he learned the tinsmith trade. He joined the Evangelical church of Elgin where he met Miss Mary D. Thies who became his bride March 13, 1873.

Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder moved to Barrington in 1874 and Mr. Schroeder started the tinsmith business which later developed into the Schroeder Hardware company of which Mr. Schroeder was head for more than 50 years. He was charter member number 50 of the Illinois Hardware association.

Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder became members of the Salem church when they came to Barrington and were active members during the remainder of their lives.

On March 13 of this year Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder had the unusual privilege of celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Schroeder, three daughters, and two sons preceded Mr. Schroeder in death.

Three sons, Henry T., Benjamin A., and Dennis C., one daughter Miss Amanda, and seven grandchildren survive Mr. Schroeder.
