Sergeant Bluff – Elton L. Holder, 74, of Sergeant Bluff, died Sunday in a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. The Rev. Gary Marzolf of the Community United Methodist Church at Sergeant Bluff will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Holder was born April 26, 1909, in Sergeant Bluff and was a lifelong resident. He attended schools in Sergeant Bluff.
He married Viola A. Wortman in June of 1941 in Dakota City. He farmed most of his life.
Mr. Holder was a Methodist and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; one son, William L. of Sergeant Bluff; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Mackey and Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Taylor, both of Sioux City and Mrs. Jim (Patricia) Gatewood of Huber heights, Ohio; one brother Wayne of McCook Lake, S.D. and 12 grandchildren.
Elton was a son of William K. and Myrtle G. (Mather) Holder. He was the brother of Melvin "Fuzz" G. and Wayne H. He was married to Viola Wortman in June of 1941. They had the following children: William L., Carol Ann, Linda and Patty.
