Arthur Joe Brooner, 82, passed away February 27, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. His funeral service will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Paul Jones and Joe Day officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Joe was born in Bristow, Oklahoma on December 17, 1928 to Joseph Hyrum Brooner and Annie Humphrey Brooner. He moved to Stillwater in 1939 with his parents. He attended Stillwater schools. In 1950, he entered into the Army for two years where he was stationed in Germany and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Upon returning to Stillwater, he went to work for McCollom's in 1952. He worked there for 23 years and 4 months.

Joe and Ramona Tuttle were married in Stillwater on March 15, 1958. They spent 52 years and 11 months together. They were best friends and partners in their business. Joe and Ramona started their business, Brooner's Floor Center, in May 1976 at 407 S. Main. In 1980, they moved to 712 N. Main and in 2001, they built a new building located at 1506 E. 6th which is where they still are today.

Joe's family and employees were very important to him. He was very proud of their business and treasured all of his customers. He was a perfectionist and a workaholic and truly enjoyed his work. He had a very kind heart and wanted to help wherever he could.

Joe was a member of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Moose Lodge, being the longest active member.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona, and grandson, Adam, of the home. Three sons, Randy and his wife Kathy of Lafayette, Colorado; Richard of Stillwater; Robert and his wife Misty of Stillwater. One Daughter, Diana and her husband Doyle of Perry, Oklahoma. Seven grandchildren, Terry, Julie, Amy, Jamie, Adam, Anna and Rebecca. Four step grandchildren, Alyssa, Kirsten, Laken and Gage. He is also survived by one brother, Omer Earl Brooner of Vinita, Oklahoma, one sister Esther Ruth Mitchell of Stillwater, one step sister, Pam Fassnacht of Pawnee, Oklahoma and one sister-in-law Gayle Hill of Perkins, Oklahoma.
