Poley was the first member of his family to be born in Iowa. He was first married to Jennetie Mae Lemming in 1900. They had the following children: Ivy, Daisy M., Walter David, Arvilla Mae and Ervil Lee. Jennetie died on May 12, 1907. Poley then married Maud Stephens on November 23, 1919 and had the following child: Mary Ann Pearl.
