Son of Mary Bea Washburn and James R. Poindexter. Early life was spent in Grayson Co, and then Virgil moved with his mother and siblings to Young Co after the death of his father. He served in the Army during WWI and saw action in France. He returned to U.S. and worked in Pampa at later settled in South Bend and Eliaseville, Tx. He was a Mason.
