Dorothy Vik, age 77, of Pueblo, died at home of heart failure and old age on Dec. 12, 2001, after a brief and painless illness. She was born on Feb. 28, 1924, in Elgin, Neb., the youngest of two daughters of Minda G. Thompson McIntyre, whose parents were immigrants in 1868 from Valdres, Norway, and Raymond G. McIntyre, whose family has been in America since 1620 when the Pilgrims William Brewster and Stephen Hopkins and their families arrived on the Mayflower at Plymouth Colony, Mass. Dorothy was raised in a loving home in the small farming communities of Cedar Bluffs and Wahoo, Neb., surrounded by music, laughter and large extended families. Her family was among the first pioneers busting sod on the Great Plains of eastern Nebraska, the Western frontier. Upon graduation from high school, she went to Van Sant School of Business in Omaha, where she met her future husband, Gregor M. Vik of Scribner, Neb., at First Lutheran Church. Dorothy and Greg were married on June 18, 1944, in Omaha. To them were born four children: Donald of Hollister, Calif.; Judith from Westminster, Colo.; Lawrence, deceased, of Pueblo; and David from Pueblo West. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gregor of Pueblo; three of her children; 12-and-a-half grandchildren; and four-and-a-half great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at Imperial Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 5450 Highway 78 West on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Public viewing Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral will be at Tabor Lutheran Church on Monday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Tabor Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 102 East Orman Ave., Pueblo, CO 81004.
