He was born on Sept. 21, 1947, at Laramie, Wyo., to Clara and Joseph Crawford. He was raised on ranches all through childhood until his family settled in Baker City during his teen years.

At age 19 he went to work for a ranch at Bridgeport. There is where he met his sweetheart, Starlit Jones. Kenneth went to work for her dad until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967.

After coming home on leave from Fort Lewis, Wash., the couple became engaged. He was then sent to Fort Gorden, Ga. In July of 1968 he came home on leave and the couple were married on Aug. 10, 1968, one week before he left for Vietnam.

He returned in 1969 and served in the reserves for two years. During that time he returned to working on various ranches.

He drove long-haul truck across the United States and Canada for a few years. He later returned to his passion of farming and ranching, which allowed him to spend more time with his family.

He continued that work until he found the job of his dreams. In 1984 he went to work on a wheat farm for Payne and Payne Farms of Waitsburg, Wash. His moving stopped and he settled there with his family.

They lived on the farm until 2008 when circumstances moved him to Dayton, Wash. He continued to work on the farm until his cancer forced him into early retirement in February 2010. He loved the job and the family that gave it to him.

Kenneth was a member of the Waitsburg Grange for many years, a past member of the Elks Lodge, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Dayton. He was a member of the NRA and a life member of the North American Hunting Club and the North American Fishing Club.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved taking his family camping. He loved reading Western books, and watching Westerns. He had a great love for singing his country songs and doing karaoke.

He was a foster parent for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Starlit at their home in Dayton, Wash.; his daughter, Angela Crawford of Baker City; his sons, Brandon and Jason, and grandson, Logan Crawford, also of Dayton; his extended children and grandchildren, Kim Shinstine and granddaughters Jessica and Brianna of Summer, Wa., Jeri Neely and granddaughters, Lexiss and ET of Dayton, Wash., Erin Scheideman and granddaughter, Natalie, of Walla Walla, Wash., and R.J.
