I have seen both C and D for Elkanah's middle name. A WW I Draft Registration of 1918 lists his middle name as Denton, and describes him as living in Joplin, MO working for the railroad. He is 42, tall, with a medium build, blue eyes and red hair.
In the 1880 Dade County, MO Census Cain's mother "Thurza" Gilmore, 27, is a single mom with five young children. The youngest child Lee A is age one. Her mother Nancy Lollar, 57, is also living with her. Cain appears as "Elkanah D", 5.

Cain married Belva L Poindexter March 23, 1900, Dade County, MO. They have a son Clyde C Gilmore, age 9 in the 1910 Springfield, Greene County, MO Census. Cain drives a wagon for a brewery.
Cain, divorced, died at age 57 from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Martha Coble, Lockwood, MO is the informant on his MO Death Certificate.
