Hold Rites for Samuel E. Ashmore at North Grove

Funeral services for Samuel E. Ashmore, formerly a resident of Villisca, were held Monday afternoon at the North Grove church southeast of Villisca, with the Rev H.B. Kishpaugh of Nodaway in charge. The body was at the Sutphen Funeral Home awaiting the funeral hour. The pall bearers were Duane Narigon, Roland Reed, Jack Narigon, Keith Pratt, Francis Murphy, and Keith Reed, and interment was in the North Grove cemetery

Samuel Edward, son of Margaret and George Ashmore, was born Jun 24, 1853, at Burlington, Iowa, and died March 29, 1946, at the age of 92 years.

On Dec 5, 1878, he was united in marriage to Margaret Reynolds and to this union were born seven children. His wife and three children preceded him in death. Those surviving are Mrs Mae Narigon, Villisca; Mrs Neva Reed, Hepburn; Guy Ashmore, Derby, Colo; and John Ashmore, Clarinda. Of eleven brothers and sisters, two brothers and one sister are living, George W. in Nebraska, Thomas A. in California and Anna in Minnesota. There are twenty-four grand children and eight great grandchildren.

Mr Ashmore farmed for several years around Burlington, and in Monona county before coming to Page county in 1891, where he farmed for 27 years, later moving to Villisca on account of his wife's health. After her death in 1926, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs Lewis Reed, east of Hepburn.

He joined the Methodist church at an early age and was a member of the North Grove church at the time of his death. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, April 1946
