OBITUARY: Elbert Carroll Evans - Wenona - Elbert Carroll "Rusty" Evans, 78, of here died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Wenona, he was a son of the late Sewell and Pearle Webster Evans. He was a waterman and had worked for Dresser Wayne in Salisbury for 25 years. He had also worked at Glen L. Martin in Baltimore and was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. Trained as an air mechanic, he was a sergeant in the Army Air Force, serving in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Tyler Evans of Wenona; two sons, Elbert C. Evans Jr. of Finksburg, Md., and William Jennings Evans of Towson, Md.; five grandchildren, Mark Vincent Evans, Russell David Evans, Stephen Vaughn Evans, Hillary Grace Evans and William Jennings Evans Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Jones of Salisbury and Marie Sablich of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Vaughn Evans, who died in Vietnam. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Alva Daniels; and two brothers, Vaughn Evans and Jennings Evans. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona, where friends may call tonight from 6 to 8. Interment will be held in St. Paul[']s United Methodist Cemetery in Wenona. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Joyce White, 9338 Deal Island Road, Wenona, Md. 21870.
