Gregory (Grzegorz) Walczyk was born in Czermna, Poland, to parents Andrzej Walczyk and Anna Data. He immigrated to the U.S in 1912, joining his brother Frank in Chicago. Later that year, he married Sophie Waclawik at St. John Cantius Church. He was a factory laborer in a smelting works and foundry.
