Archie Galen Allen, 73, died March 4 at home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 25, 1938, at Great Bend, the son of Archie Roy and Rosetta Mae (Smiley) Allen.

He married Barbara Leah Feaster on Jan. 1, 1963, at Windsor, Mo. She died June 29, 2006.

He worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Wash., as an engineer. Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Great Bend, also living in Bozeman, Mont., Seattle, Wash., and Torrance, Calif.

He was a fly fishing enthusiast.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, retiring in 1979 with the rank of major.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Allen of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Lehanna Allen of Seattle, Wash.; and one sister, Marilyn Wade and husband Jim, of Fredonia.

Graveside memorial service with military honors conducted by U.S. Air Force Honor Guard will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend, with Pastor Jack Sweany officiating.

Cremation has taken place. The register will be available to sign from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorial contributions may be given to VFW Post No. 3111, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
