Ruth Brandenburg
Ruth B. Brandenburg, 91, of Hillsdale,
died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at Genesis
Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at
the Erie Christian Church, where she was
a member. Burial will be at Bethesda
Cemetery, Hillsdale. Visitation will be
from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the
Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be
made to the Erie Christian Church.
The former Ruth Berneal Strouss was
born Sept. 27, 1917, in Walnut, Ill.,
the daughter of Frank and Ella
Fordham Strouss. She married Howard
Brandenburg on Oct. 5, 1935, in
Freeport, Ill. He died on Aug. 1, 1988.
Ruth had been employed at the former
Hillsdale Telephone Office, Chuck Tanner's
Grocery, Tate's Locker and Lease's Grocery,
all of Hillsdale. She enjoyed
fishing, playing cards, bowling,
but most of all playing with her
grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Yvonne and John Pettit,
Port Byron, Pam and Ron Lohman, Erie,
and Patsy and Dale Gramling, Hillsdale; six
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a
granddaughter, three sisters and one brother.
