Mrs Sarah Moffitt, the mother of Mrs William Burnside of southeast of town and of T.J. Moffitt formerly of this vicinity but now of California, died at her home at Winfield, Kansas, Tuesday, February 23, 1909, of heart failure.

The body was brought here and the funeral and interment took place at Fairview chapel under the ministration of Rev Foreman of the Christian church, of Bedford, last Friday forenoon.

Mrs Moffitt was 84 years of age. She formerly lived at this place and was widely known and greatly beloved by Villisca people. She left here and moved to Kansas about six years ago. She was the mother of thirteen children, eight of whom survive as follows: Mrs Elizabeth Gunn of Kansas; Mrs Sarah Sheldon of Washington; Mrs Ellen Gentry of Oregon; Mrs Wm. Burnside of this place; W.R. Moffitt of Washington; Rev I.D. Moffitt of Winfield; T.J. Moffitt of California, and G.W. Moffitt of Nebraska. Mrs Moffitt leaves many friends who sympathize with the bereaved relatives in their hours of affliction, for she was a true and worthy woman and had lived a long and useful life.
