MRS W.W.HOWES DIES AT HOSPITAL
Resident of City 45 Years and For 42 Years Member of First Church
Holyoke, July 4 - Mrs Ida Ann (Eldridge) Howes, 80, of 6 Thorpe avenue, wife of Willis W Howes, died last night at the Holyoke hospital. She was a member of the First Congregational church and an active member of the Ladies' guild. Mrs Howes's family settled in Ashfield in 1777 and she inherited the farm which has been in the family since 1818. It consisted of about 180 acres and every year all the members of the Howes family, numbering about 100, gathered there for an outing and the past five year [sic] the Smith Ferry Improvement association has held its annual outing there.
Mrs Howes had spent her summers there for a number of years. It was about 43 years ago that Mr and Mrs Howes came to this city. Mr and Mrs Howes have been members of the Congregational church for 42 years. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Lyman R of Sprinfield and Luther of Smith Ferry; one daughter, Mrs. J. L. Townsend of Springfield; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The funeral will be held at the First Congregational church Wednesday afternoon at 2. Rev. Dr. E. W. Brown will officiate and burial will be in Spruce Corner cemetery, Ashfield.

The funeral of Mrs. Willis W Howes was held this afternoon at the First Congregational church. Rev. Dr. Elliot W. Brown officiated. The bearers, grandsons of Mrs. Howes, Robert K. Wait, Ralph Blitz and Walter Steide [could be Stelde]. Burial was in Spruce Corner cemetery, Ashfield.
