Chester J. Benbow, son of Edmund and Martha Benbow was born October 25, 1886 and passed away Thursday, Aug. 11 at the age of 79 years. He was married to Grace Nicholson October 25, 1910. To this union one daughter, Freda was born July 9, 1916.
He was a member of Fremont church where he and his family were almost always present at every service.
They lived on the old Benbow homestead for 5 years, moved to their home near the church where they remained until Mr. Benbow became ill and they moved to Osceola because of his health July 14, 1962.
He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife, Grace and daughter, Freda, 3 sisters, Ida Critchfield, Laura Cobun and Daisy Miller, several nieces and nephews and hosts of friends.
Pall bearers were Mr. Benbow's nephews including Robert McKay of Knoxville, Deryl Nicholson of New Hartford, Wayne Benbow of Creston, Jack Jerrerys of Osceola, Andrew Jeffreys of Osceola and Dean Hedrick.
The funeral was held at the funeral home in Osceola at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 7. Rev. Smith of Creston was the Minister and interment was at Fremont cemetery.
Those attending from a distance were nieces and families, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schaffer of Charlotte, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Oller of Knoxville, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bixly and daughter, Lisa Ann of Zion, Ill., and Bob McKay of Knoxville, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. James Schaffer of Waukee, and three sons from Round Lake, Ill.; Mr.. and Mrs. James Schaffer and three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bixley and daughter, Lisa Ann, Mrs. Roy Witt of Gurnea, Ill., spent Saturday night with Mrs. Benbow and daughter, Freda.
