Delmar W. Boggs, engineer on an Illinois Central switch engine was caught in the mechanism of his own engine Friday while oiling the under carriage and sustained injuries which caused his death within a few moments. He was never conscious after the accident dying about the time he was taken into St.Marys hospital. The engine crew spotted a northbound freight train backing toward the switch engine. Since a collision was about to happen and a bell was rung for Bobbs and then the train reversed it ran over Boggs. He had been in Illinois Central service as an engineman 22 years and had been working in Decatur yards for the last year.

He was born Jan. 18 1887 near Centralia where he married Kathry Hines,Jan. 16, 1911 until they came to Decatur to reside there. He leaves his widow, father, William Lee Boggs of Bement,brothers, Edgar of Macon and Joseph of Decatur.

He was a member of the Elks lodge at Clinton MainLodge176,Brothehood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and of Division 315,Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers,both in Clinton.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete but he will be buried in Fairlawn cemetery.
