Emmett O'Donahue
Emmett J. O'Donahue, 88,
Ironwood, died Thursday, March
29, in Hurley.
He was born April 12, 1901, in
Mellen, Wis., the son of the late
John and Elizabeth O'Donahue.
He attended Mellen schools and
graduated from the Mellen High
School with the Class of 1919.
Mr. O'Donahue then worked for
the Soo Line Railroad on survey
crews in Duluth, Minneapolis
and in the Western states.
He began work as a section
foreman for the Soo Line in Hurley
in 1925, retiring on June 1,
1968.
He was a member of Our Lady
of Peace Catholic Church, Ironwood,
and the Brotherhood of
Railway Trainmen.
Mr. O'Donahue was married to
the former Genevieve E. King on
Sept. 23, 1929, at the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church in Mellen
by the late Rev. M.A. Schauz.
His wife preceded him in death
on Feb. 21,1985.
Surviving are four sons, Emmett
J. Jr., of Monroe Wis.,
Charles T., of Tacoma, Wash.,
David F., of Ironwood, and James
P., of Kennewick, Wash., and a
foster son, John Cain, of Ironwood;
two daughters, Mary Pozega,
of Ironwood, and Mrs. Richard
(Sharon) Cressey, of Ironwood;
18 grandchildren, and six
great-grandchildren; and two sisters,
Mrs. Michael (Margaret)
Galvin, and Mrs. Norman (Elizabeth)
Zimmerman, both of St.
Paul.
Preceding him in death were
three brothers, Gavin, John and
Thomas O'Donahue; two sisters,
Eileen Trainor and Marie
O'Donahue.
Funeral services will be conducted
Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our
Lady of Peace Church with the
Rev. Norbert Landreville officiating.
Interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the McKevitt-
Patrick Funeral Home from
5 to 8 p.m. Monday, where wake
prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m.
