PFC US MARINE CORPS - VIETNAM - KILLED IN ACTION

Son of Andrew & Palmyre (Quirion) FROST.

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Carlton A. Frost (MCSN: 2261252), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as an Anti-tank Assaultman with Company D, First Battalion, Fourth Marines, THIRD Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam.

On the morning of 19 May 1968, Private First Class Frost's platoon was conducting a combat patrol east of the Con Thien Combat Base when the Marines suddenly came under a heavy volume of small-arms and automatic weapons fire from a large North Vietnamese Army force. Alertly observing a hostile machine gun emplacement, he unhesitatingly maneuvered across the fire-swept terrain to an advantageous position. With complete disregard for his own safety, he fearlessly exposed himself to the enemy rounds impacting near him and accurately fired a light anti-tank assault weapon into the hostile fortification, killing two North Vietnamese soldiers and silencing their machine gun.

Although seriously wounded, Private First Class Frost resolutely attempted to deliver fire against another enemy automatic-weapons position until he succumbed to his wounds. His timely actions and bold initiative inspired all who observed him and enabled his platoon to subsequently withdraw to a covered defensive position.

By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit, and selfless devotion to duty, Private First Class Frost upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
