M.R. OVERSTREET

Melvin Ray Overstreet, 64, died Sunday, May 20, 1984 at his home in Newport News.
Born in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Herbert C. and Bessie Updike Overstreet. He was retired with 40 years service with Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and a member of Quaker Baptist Church near Body Camp.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Pearson Overstreet; one daughter, Mrs. Janet O. Godfrey of Newport News; one son, Kenneth Overstreet of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys O. Laing, Mrs. J.W. [Mable] Hawkins, and Miss Isabelle Overstreet of Bedford; three brothers, Cecil C. Overstreet, R. Bernard Overstreet and Rudolph G. Overstreet of Bedford; and three grandsons.
Funeral services were conducted May 22 from Peninsula Funeral Home Chapel in Newport News. Burial was in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
