William Brooks was born in Derbyshire, England, April 8,
1822, and when eight years of age came to America and settled in New York state, and in 1836, settled in York township, Steubern county, Indiana, and in 1848 was joined in marriage with Mary P. Richmond, who died April 21, 1900, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 17 days.
He had been a sufferer for twenty-five years, and no one thought he would live so long. His death, though of course sad to his family and friends, was nevertheless a relief, and his body now rests beside that of his companion of over fifty years in the Powers cemetery.
