Charlie Edward Boss was the son of Norman G and Bessie Elizabeth Jackson Boss. He attended school at Blossom, Lamar County, Texas. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy 22 July 1942 in Dallas, Texas. He was Seaman Second Class, Service Number 06172727 serving on board the U.S.S. Enterprise and died during the Battle of Santa Cruz 26 October 1942. He was buried at sea 27 October 1942 along with 43 other shipmates killed during the battle.
