Evelyn W. Horton, 97, of Brookston, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Cumberland Pointe of West Lafayette.
She was born June 28, 1919 in Monroe County, Kentucky to the late Willie P. and Savanah (Wood) Sims. Her family moved to the Brookston community when she was 18.
She married Kenneth W. Horton. He died June 16, 1996.
Mrs. Horton was a homemaker and longtime member of the Brookston Church of Christ.
Later, she worked for 17 years for Purdue University in housekeeping at Meredith Hall.
Evelyn enjoyed a good cup of coffee and fresh tomatoes in season and flowers, especially her purple Clematis that would grow by the senior apartments.
Surviving is a daughter, Juanita Sheehan (husband: Richard) of Battle Ground and a granddaughter, Amy Brayton (husband: Aaron) of West Lafayette. Evelyn loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren, Bethany Grundy (husband: Zach) and Dylan Giles and her great-great-granddaughter, Adeline.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are two brothers and ten sisters.
