Esther L Oilar Harmon, 96, formerly of Brookston, died Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Tennova Hospice in Knoxville, Tenn. She had previously resided at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Knoxville. She moved to Knoxville in 2009 with her son and daughter-in-law.

She was born October 18, 1915 to the late Forest J. and Anna Schultz Oilar.

She is survived by a son, Robert; daughter-in law, Linda; grandson, Michael (wife: Sarah) Harmon; granddaughter, Alaina (husband: Shawn) Carroll; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Patience Harmon, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Braden Carroll, Jackson and Caroline Harmon; a sister, Mrs. Francis (Yvonne) Halstead; a brother, Robert "Red" (wife: Grace) Oilar; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Herbert Harmon; a grandson, Thomas Harmon; and two sisters, Vera Ford and Bonnie Petway.

Mrs. Harmon lived in the Brookston community most of her life. She and her husband farmed on the Harmon Homestead Farm.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Brookston. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, White Co. Home Extension, and a 4-H leader for many years. She and her husband were quite active in the Republican Party. She loved the Chicago Cubs, Purdue, the New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Volunteer Mens basketball.

Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements at Hartzler Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston with a graveside service at the IOOF Brookston Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Memorials to be made to the Brookston United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
