Born in Stokes Bridge, Darlington Co., S.C.,"Burrell was a substantial landowner, a county commisioner, a farmer, had a grist mill, a sawmill and owned a general store. He was also the Post Master of Kea's Pond, Georgia. Burrell changed the spelling of his name to Kea after the year 1833 as land deeds before that time were signed by Burrell Key and after that time as Burrell Kea. He told that he found the name "Kea" carved on a chair that had been brought from England by the first Keys who came to America. He built Kea's Millpond and the first bridge across the Ohoopee River" from the Thomas Royal Descendants website, July 17, 2006
He was described by his grandchildren as quite a prankster of about medium build with a long white, flowing beard.
