The Heritage book, page 231, says that Daniel was arrested as a soldier on October 20, 1863 at Morganton and was assigned to Company B, 45th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry C.S.A. In July, 1864, he was captured near Harper's Ferry, imprisoned at Elmira, NY, where he died on February 20, 1865 and was buried.
